[Dev Blog] Major Changes


Good day to you, Islander!

Intro

This is going to be one hell of a post, so better go grab yourself a cup of coffee, tea, or a glass of your favorite whiskey. The changes I am about to describe are mainly about, you could say, immersion. If you are short on time, you can just scroll through all the images I've attached to get a more or less general grasp of what's coming. Okay! Let's dig in!

Computer System.

Do you remember how the PC at home used to work? Just a boring menu, right? There was nothing interesting there.

I was wondering how much RenPy's scripting language is capable of. Therefore, I began experimenting with it for a couple of days and found out that it's not as primitive as I thought.

After aggressively ramming my keyboard for many hours, I was able to cook something like this.

The wallpapers are going to be obtainable through gameplay. Right-clicking to unlock is for testing. 


Inventory System.

You could say that something similar to inventory already existed in the game, since you were able to buy presents and gift them to the girls. It had way too many limitations, though.

Firstly, you couldn't have more than one of the identical items at the same time. It was making farming the love points truly awful.

Another huge downside of it was that you couldn't even see your own items, not to mention manage them. You pretty much had to remember what you had bought in the past.


The management part is still pretty limited because I also have to create new scenes before the update. After all, I promised the new content would be released every month.

Buying.

I had to rewrite the buying system from scratch. On the surface, it works completely the same as before. You buy an item which then is going to arrive the very next day.

You are still purchasing items and gifts using the computer. They both have a separate icon on the desktop, because I don't quite know how many things I am going to add there. Additionally, both items and gifts has a filter for your convenience to show only the things you are currently interested in.


User Interface Overhaul.

As you probably noticed, there are a lot of new and reworked icons. At the moment I started working on the novel, I had almost no experience in designing/creating UI elements.

I could always just grab a few icons from the internet, but again, let me repeat myself. Where's the fun in that? :D

So, every icon you see has been painfully crafted by me, which makes the game appear more pleasing to the eye. (I really do think they are not that ugly ;/ )

 

Preferences.

An extremely important aspect of any game is the ability to tune the settings to the player's preferences. For this reason, you can now change the font, adjust its size, and change the language. As of public version 0.1.1, there are going to be two more languages available: Spanish and Portuguese. Translations by Fernando HT.

In the near future, pre-defined styles will be introduced.


Girls Bonding View.

It's another immersion feature I'm still experimenting with. The complexity of creating such a thing was way more perplexing than it probably meets the eye. I hope you will like it.

Before, when visiting a girl and interacting with her, it was just another plain menu, like in most games. Well, no more!

I'm still not particularly proud of the aesthetics, but I want to show you the overall idea.


Prototype Builds.

In short, scripts testing build, new benefit for Patrons starting with tier Guardian.

What's this about?  First and foremost, it's not meant for full walkthroughs! Prototype builds are designed specifically to test new functionalities within the game. By downloading and evaluating these new elements, you can help identify any bugs, crashes, or errors, directly contributing to the creation of stable, crash-free releases. The first prototype will be released on Monday/Tuesday and will be available to download on my Patreon page with more details.

This would be about it. There are still several things I reworked and didn't mention, like working, investing, and so on. That's because they work the same way, but now through the “Computer System”.
